Partying like it's a 2019 Drum Circle

We really didn't know what to expect as we approached a growing circle of people on Siesta Keys Beach in Florida on a warm, September, Sunday evening in 2019. The Siesta Keys Drum Circle isn't easy to describe. It feels like a festive, uninhibited, public party on the beach at sunset where anyone can perform or express themselves through music, dance, or acrobatics.
Here's a good website to paint a fuller picture of the Drum Circle. The best advice is to go with a beach blanket, refreshments, and an open mind. It's all unscripted, uninhibited, family-friendly fun.
Drummers drum. Dancers dance. Jesters...well, they jest.
The most enjoyable part of the drum circle was that like the woman below, nobody is performing for applause or to get a thousand new followers on Instagram. Nobody is self-aware or self-promoting, and the audience is nonjudgmental.

The one thing missing from the pictures are people wearing masks. This all took place about five months before a global pandemic crashed the party.
There was no social distancing as folks sat shoulder-to-shoulder together on the beach. No one measured six feet between each other. Heated political arguments, worrying if the guy next to you was vaccinated or not, or having to watch the drum circle virtually on Zoom were all thankfully missing. It feels like a different time.

I'm pretty sure the Drum Circle continues, but probably with a different vibe because a lot has changed in two years. It's a different world now in ways that we could have never imagined just a few years ago.
Here's to finding a way to release your own rhythm in a new abnormal world.
