Sign Right Here: Part 1

Ed Becker

Warnings you don't see every Day

In a normal day we see dozens of signs cautioning us about potential hazards. Slippery floors, trucks that make sudden stops, or deer crossings (and deer making sudden stops) are a few of the accepted risks around us.

However, the types of warning signs around us are relevant to where we live, visit, or work. Here are some of the more unusual warning signs that only make sense for that environment.

Grand Canyon: Mules and Victor

They're not joking--Mules Rule when it comes to the Grand Canyon's Angel Bright Trail. It appears here that I was breaking that rule, but I didn't have time to be on the inside of the trail. Keep your wits about you especially if there's a snowfall because you don't always know where the trail ends, and the drop begins.

It might be gross, but it's a message the park officials want to drive home in the most graphic and effective way. Hiking the Angel Bright Trail unprepared can become a life-or-death issue. Read the recommendations before your adventure.

St. Marteen's Airport

Why is a sign warning about the risk of standing behind jets even necessary?

Probably because people want to stand in the path of the jet's blasts at St. Marteen's Airport.

Read this backstory about why this sign is routinely ignored.
