Sign Right Here: Part 2

More Warnings you don't see every Day

Here are some more unusual signs from around the world reminding you about rogue waves, unpredictable icebergs, and defenseless turkeys.

Iceland's Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach: Unpredictable and dangerous tides

Tourists to Reynisfjara Beach in southern Iceland can't say they aren't warned about its biggest hazard--- unpredictable, rogue waves. Our tour group was lectured before we got off the bus about exploring this famous landmark. At least two signs (in Icelandic and English) warned about the beach's infamous reputation for claiming unsuspecting visitors with sudden, powerful waves. Learn more about this beautiful, but unpredictable beach. It's worth visiting for the amazing basalt stacks (shown above), and unusual black sand. Just keep your wits about you and take its history and reputation seriously.

Iceland's Jokulsarlon Lagoon: Unpredictable and dangerous icebergs

Many of us see signs through the winter warning us about slippery, ice-covered sidewalks. Ignore the warning and you may end up bruising your elbow, knee, or ego when you go spread-eagle in front of the sign warning about the ice.

Try walking on the (icebergs) at Jokulsarlon Lagoon in southeast Iceland and either the fall, or sub-zero water will kill you in seconds.

It's actually hard to picture how anyone would even be able to climb onto the massive hunks of ice. Some of these icebergs are more than two stories high with jagged edges that would break your fall in ways you don't want to imagine. And, as our boat guide told us if you even made it to the water your survival clock is set for around one or two minutes.

The captain of our boat tour also pointed out the guy following closely behind us in the lagoon. If someone fell into the water this guy is trained to get the person out of the sub-zero water ASAP.

Read this fascinating article from Iceland Today explaining why it's necessary to warn clueless travelers about walking on the ice at Jokulsarlon Lagoon.

The Butler-Freeport Bike Trail: Unpredictable and dangerous turkeys

Thanks to my friend, Mike Krivyanski, for sending me this photo he shot while biking on the Butler-Freeport Rail Trail near Saxonburg, PA.

As he says, "who wakes up in the morning and wonders if it's a good day to harass turkeys?" Unfortunately, there are some knuckleheads out there who have it on their to-do list so this sign is apparently needed along the trail.

If you're that idiot you might think twice about throwing objects at turkeys---especially this one. It looks like it might be taking steroids. And, its favorite movie is Hitchcock's, The Birds. Go ahead, make its day.
